Introducing EBX5 Insight: Measure master data quality and process improvement

Performance metrics for your MDM

For most of our customers master data management is a process of continuous improvement. This is why many of them have requested features that measure quality, support benchmarking and root cause analysis. As Gartner pointed out in The Seven Building Blocks of MDM [Radcliffe, 2012] "Unless there is a focus on metrics and benchmarking against those metrics — before and after an MDM initiative — there is no objective basis for reporting and analyzing improvements."

This is why we're pleased to announce the general availability of EBX5 Insight

for versions 5.4 and above. Insight helps customers measure the change in quality and process performance over time. These data are important pieces of information when determining how and where to make improvements. EBX5 Insight includes:

Master Data Indicators

Indicators are used to measure performance, track master data values and issue alerts. These "probes" can be tied to any EBX5 object, workflow or event. This level of intimacy is possible because insight is not an external tool, it's part of EBX5.

The indicators record a variety of factors. For example, say your supply chain, marketing and finance teams are collaboratively authoring product or material data. With indicators, you can monitor the level of potential duplicates (useful if you're merging product/material masters or ERPs). Tracking process times and reject rates for workflows tells you, not just, how quickly your teams respond, but also, how effective they are.

While Insight comes with a rich library of ready to use indicators, it is possible to use the API to develop your own custom indicators.

Dashboards are how indicators are visualized. Fully integrated into the EBX5 user interface, each authorized user can visualize and analyze KPIs with interactive graphs. Users can also create scorecards to see all their KPIs at a glance.

Alerts send real-time notifications when user-defined boundary conditions are exceeded. In addition to sending notifications, alerts can also trigger workflows for additional reviews, approvals, or quality checks.

Access to the underlying data

All of the data collected by the indicators can be accessed in multiple ways. With EBX5 native SQL access, it is possible to connect your business intelligence/reporting tool or a visualization tool such as Tableau or Qlikview. The raw data can also be exported in excel/xml/text formats to support desktop analytical and visualization tools, such as Excel, R/S-Plus, or MATLAB.
