Company Profile

This Fortune Global 500 Company is a world-leading supplier of technology, integrated project management and information solutions to customers working in the oil and gas industries. It employs more than 100,000 people and works in approximately 80 countries.

Situation

The company launched this MDM initiative with the goal of building a central point of management for their organizational structures and employees. Organizational elements such as markets, business units or geographic area were defined in different formats in their existing systems. In addition, employees were managed in heterogeneous systems ranging from enterprise directories to human resources applications.

Challenge

The project objective was to design a unified description of organizational and employee hierarchies and to synchronize this central MDM with existing applications.

Data Governance Objectives

» Design a hierarchical data model of organizations and employees
» Maintain data mapping between MDM and existing applications
» Enforce roles, rights and strict security rules for business users
» Manage master data changes with end-user workflows
» Synchronize reference data with directory and HR systems

Solution: Orchestra Networks EBX

After evaluating identity management products, the company realized its project needed more than just a directory-oriented solution. EBX was the only MDM software that allowed users to model and manage complex organizational data. It delivered the following out-of-the-box Data Governance features:

» Ability to model complex hierarchies of organizational structures and employees
» Management of cross-reference and mappings tables
» Role-based security for business users
» End-user workflows
» Standard integration of master data with existing systems

Benefits Achieved

» Decreased master data maintenance costs by consolidating master data into a unified repository.
» Decreased redundancies and errors by maintaining one unique federated repository updated by Finance, HR and enterprise security teams.
» Improved reporting by using unified organizational and employee master data.

"EBX.Platform provides our business users with a multi-dimensional view of our HR and organizational data, allowing better and faster maintenance of complex hierarchies." Head of Master Data Management
