MDM for Business Intelligence
A leading pharmaceutical company consolidates and enriches Product & Customer hierarchies in order to produce consistent reports
Context
After conducting a large merger of two leading pharmaceutical companies, the group launched an enterprise wide Business Intelligence initiative, in order to provide a better, consolidated analysis of its sales per markets, segments, product lines and customers.
The main challenge of this large scale Data Warehouse/BI project was to produce reports based on consistent Master Data, validated and enriched by marketing and sales teams. The company quickly understood it needed to deploy a master data central repository on top of its BI system and to enroll business users in Data Governance Processes.
Data Governance Objectives
- Manage a unique and shared repository of product and customer data
- Enforce roles, rights and security rules for marketing and sales teams
- Define complex validation and hierarchy management workflows
- Maintain multiple concurrent versions of Master Data
- Improve confidence and transparency of the data an reports
Solution: EBX.Platform
EBX.Platform was selected against vertical solutions such as CDI (Customer Data) or PIM (Product Data). EBX.Platform was the only Master Data Management software solution that provided generic data modelling capabilities as well as out-of-the-box Data Governance features. Key features for this project were:
- Flexible data modelling (pharmaceutical products, markets, customers..)
- Role-based security and end-user workflow
- Life cycle management (version control, compare & merge)
- Sophisticated hierarchy management
Benefits
- Cut master data maintenance cost by automating master data consolidation into a unified repository
- Improved user confidence by the increased quality and consistency of reports as a consequence of enforcing transparent validation and hierarchy management
- Reduce time to market with faster decisions by empowering the business users with a consistent tool for all master data allowing them to take ownership and management of their data across all business functions.
